Biographical or Historical Information

The International Studies Program at Florida State University began in 1966 with the development of a study abroad program to Florence, Italy. The program was created by former Dean of Students, Dr. Ross Oglesby, under President Blackwell. In 1966, the Florence program was the only one of its kind at Florida State University and only consisted of 120 students. Today, Florida State University’s International Program has expanded to just under 50 programs in over 15 countries. The international program at Florida State University sends over 1,600 students every year to countries like China, Italy, Panama, and Spain.
