Abstract/Description:
Millions of pounds of edible mushrooms are consumed in this country annually, and a large percentage of them are imported from Europe. More than a thousand species of mushrooms are known, but the common cultivated edible variety Psalliota campestris is the only species cultivated in the United States and most of the mushrooms consumed are of this type. This paper describes the cultivation of mushroom in the United States.
